Introduction
Located in the central-zone of Pudong New District (Hereafter refers to Pudong), Shanghai Oriental Art Center is the east landmark on Shanghai's new cultural blueprint. With an investment of over 1 billion RMB by Shanghai Municipal Government and Pudong local administration, Shanghai Oriental Art Center is one of the most important cultural facilities which nearly cover 40,000 square meters. Designed by famous French architect Paul Andreu, the construction began snice the 26th March 2002. On the 31st December 2004, the center launched its trial opening by hosting the New Year Concert. Till the 1st July of 2005, the center embraced its official inauguration.

Looking over from the high place, Shanghai Oriental Art Center is just like a blossoming flower with five petals, which is composed of the entrance hall, Performance Hall, Concert Hall, Exhibition Gallery and Opera Hall, forming a beautiful butterfly orchid in full bloom.
Since its opening on July 1st 2005, Shanghai Oriental Art Center has presented many high-quality performances. Especially the success of Berliner Philharmoniker Shanghai Premiere Concert helped the Center establish the reputation among Shanghai music lovers as the best venue to enjoy symphonies. In addition, the success of this concert was also among the "Top Ten Cultural News in Shanghai" in Year 2005. At the beginning of 2006, as the only cultural venue, the Center has been elected as one of the 'Shanghai's Top Ten Fashion Sites' and awarded the title of "The Newest High Arts Presenting Venue in Shanghai". When it came to March 2006, in collaboration with Xinmin Evening News, Classical Music FM 947 and Publicity Culture Development Fund of Pudong, the Center held the vote," Our Ten Favorite Orchestras"and claimed that the winning orchestras would be invited to Shanghai Oriental Art Center in the following five years. ¡°Enjoy Symphony in the Shanghai Oriental Center¡± has built up its credit. In the July of 2006, the Center presented its first performance season. It's the first time that a cultural and performance venue in China arranged a performance season aiming at triumphing in both art-quality and box office. In the November of the same year, the Center was certified by the National Quality Control Committee and awarded the certification of ISO9001:2000.
