Glittering and translucent,
Droplets hang over the branches,
Quietly blinking,
Humans and nature merge between heaven and earth…

Upon entering the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, you will feel like being in a green and luxuriant forest. Black marble reminds you of trees; the steps seem a hill road while hanging ceramic walls have the texture of tree rind. All those lamps, hanging high and low, seem bubbles rising up from the lake at dawn, and drops of dew gently falling down from treetops…
Spacious corridors and steel structures reach to the air, and symbolize branches which strongly stretch, The sun illuminates us through a magnificient glass curtain wall filtering into numbers of beams, gently sprinkling light onto the "forest". All this is not a simple depiction of a natural landscape, but throughout a highly artistic abstraction, revealing a fresh vitality and the exuberance of the forest. Let Shanghai’s citizens and nature combine!

Concert Hall

As one of the most impressive contemporary theatre designs, the Center distinguishes itself on accounts of its acoustics. Thanks to acoustic reflectors hung over the stage, the Center perfects its sound and visual effects.
At the center of the Concert hall we have the performing stage. By changing the height of the elevated platform, the stage can offer different settings to satisfy any grand symphony orchestra and meet the best choruses' performance requirements. The unique lifting platform for piano is designed to store and set-up a piano. The stage is surrounded by 1953 seats, looking like hundreds of hills. Thus, the stage becomes a valley hiding among the hills, while the elliptical glass baffle boards on the wall turn into white clouds.
The Concert hall is equipped with a 88 diapasons 5-layer hand controlled keyboard pipe organ. Originally the largest pipe organ in China, it was specially made for us by Austria’s Reagel Pipe Organ.

Opera Hall

With red as its grounding color, the Opera Hall is divided into three areas by side arc lines, which bring to the audience the aristocratic aesthetics and intimate atmosphere of Italian opera halls. The auditorium is separated into two circles with a total capacity of 1015 seats.
The soul of this hall lies on its stage that has the similar form of a Chinese character “品”. In front of the stage is an orchestra pit of 120 square meters. Structured by two parts, this pit can provide enough space for a grand orchestra of 100 musicians. The central performing area on the stage is equipped with a large-scaled platform, a side platform, an ice platform, a ballet platform, revolving walkway and a double-layer electric platform. These platforms can be controlled by computers with the aim of producing and changing complicated scenes. Thus the various needs of opera, ballet, musical, drama or comprehensive performances can be easily met while the audience can appreciate the charm of stage arts in a most comprehensive manner.

Performance Hall

The Performance Hall, a step-styled auditorium with 333 seats, is semi-circular extending and forming a separate round stage, which lets the audience enjoy skin-near communication with the artists. With a blue grounding color and the golden Swiss pearwood floor, the hall is designed after the style of Ancient Roman theaters, creating a harmonious and gentle art atmosphere. The hall specially adapts to solo, solo instrument, chamber concert and mini drama.
